Open Dental uses a two-key Authorization header: a Developer key issued by Open Dental's vendor team to CliniVox, plus a Customer key you generate inside the Developer Portal for your practice. You only need to enter the Customer key — we already hold the Developer key.
Open Dental's API server can run remotely or on your local server. Either works — point us at whichever you use today.

Use api.opendental.com unless your office runs a self-hosted API server.

We send this combined with our Developer key as the ODFHIR Authorization header on every request.

Credentials are encrypted at rest with per-practice keys. Only signed CliniVox services can decrypt them.
